Welcome to New Bridge College

I would like to take this opportunity to send a very warm welcome to everyone who will be joining us here at College.  We promote a friendly and welcoming, age appropriate environment at College and we support our students to achieve their goals and most importantly, move on to an appropriate destination by the time that they leave us.

We understand that moving to a new site is a very worrying time, not just for your child but for you as a parent.  Many things will be different for your child, from the way lessons are taught to learning how to move around the building.  These are big steps for your child and we know that you will have concerns and are probably feeling quite apprehensive.  This booklet therefore aims to give you a flavor of life at College and will hopefully allay any fears you may have about the transition to a new site.

We have a strong pastoral support system in place at College, led by our Pastoral Co- Ordinator, Nicola Nelson, who is always on hand to ensure that the transition from children to adult’s services is a smooth one.

Our vocational and employability pathways put our students’ interests and ambitions at the forefront of their curriculum offer and our learning is personalised to ensure that we ‘Create Meaningful Futures’.

The focus of the Key Stage 5 curriculum is on destinations for young people.  Our core offer includes Maths, English, ICT and Living Skills. The majority of the students’ week is on pathways or placement time. We also offer weekly work experience to all of our students, which is supported by our dedicated team of job coaches who work on key aspects of the employability strand through the Open Awards.

On Friday’s students have the option to either finish the day at 12.30pm or access an enrichment activity in the afternoon.

The staff and I are also here to work in close partnership with parents and carers. This co- operative relationship is paramount in ensuring all our students thrive, not only achieving their full potential but also enjoying their time with us. We very much look forward to working with you and your child over the coming years.
