Food Technology
Food Technology promotes the opportunity for all our young people to experience and develop skills within the kitchen. Activities that promote self confidence and self-esteem are built on each year. Specially adapted kitchen areas and a wide range of equipment is available in order that all students can achieve within the subject and become as independent as possible.
All pupils at New Bridge School will have the opportunity to access Food Technology through the state-of-the-art facilities that have been installed within this exciting, vibrant and innovative area. It is important that we prepare pupils for life in a changing society and we aim to provide them with survival skills that meet these challenges. Pupils will be provided with opportunities to experience and understand new equipment and products which are the result of technological and environmental advancements.
The development of skills through decision making, practical application and self-evaluation is aimed to maximise the independence of all pupils. This will be delivered through a ‘hands on’ approach with technological aids employed where and when they are needed to access tools to ensure individual needs are catered for. A grounding in healthy eating, safety and hygiene are promoted and situations created where choices can be made by individuals.
Dietary requirements are catered for in any practical situation and these can be discussed with staff whenever they occur. Pupils are encouraged to think and talk through a task and the emphasis is not only on the finished product but on the effort and skills applied within the project. The pupils’ individual learning styles are addressed throughout lessons to promote effective learning for all. We will provide a broad range of activities which promote self esteem and self confidence and make learning fun.
