Art & Design
Art and Design stimulates creativity and imagination. It provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a unique way of understanding and responding to the world. Pupils use colour, form, texture, pattern and different materials and processes to communicate what they see, feel and think. They are given the opportunity to practise a wide range of skills from drawing and painting to ceramics and animation. New Bridge pupils, in particular, can gain confidence and a feeling of self worth. A child’s work, be it a drawing or a junk model stands as a unique form of communication. Through art and design activities, they actively shape their environment and will hopefully leave school with the desire to be artistically creative in their own lives.
Art is a powerful and very individual communication tool for all our pupils as it provides them with an opportunity to express ideas and emotions through a visually, tactile creative medium. Individual responses and diversity are celebrated and for some pupils sensory exploration and development will be the most important aspect.
Art supports and enhances many areas of the curriculum. Art is delivered to all the year groups in Key Stage 3 and is offered as an option at Key Stage 4. All pupils have the opportunity to be included on an accredited course even if they do not meet the standards for examination entry. 6th Form students will be able to continue their art studies with the possibility of working towards a GCSE in a more specialised area.
