Lumenus Update
This week, The Lowry Theatre hosted this year’s annual ‘Salford Dance Explosion’.
The ‘explosion’ was a festival of dance performances from local schools, colleges, theatre and dance academies, showcasing a full range of genres celebrating dance.
On Thursday night, our very own Lumenus fairies were ready…
To blast the stage…
Amazing performance, well done all!
PSHE Update
New Bridge and Future Finders College welcomed back Ellen Weedon, who is the training Officer for Children and Young People.
Oldham Safeguarding Children Partnership at Rock Street in Oldham. Ellen has a wealth of knowledge and has supported the College over a number of years by delivering annual workshops around safeguarding topics such as; consent, online media, healthy and unhealthy relationships. This term, Ellen has discussed the different types of contraception’s’ that are available and raised awareness of how one should keep themselves safe from sexually transmitted infections (STI’s).
The aims of the session were:
· Preparing our students for adulthood and keeping themselves safe
· Recognise and name different forms of contraceptives
· Know where to access contraceptives
· Know what STI’s are and how to prevent them
Ellen provided the students with key information that ranged from types of contraception’s and its benefits to seeking discrete advice. This is a taboo topic; we did discuss some ground rules before the session started. Additionally, students had the opportunity to practice putting on a condom safely onto a demonstrator. There were mixed reactions to this task, from laughter to placing hands over faces and general shyness!
Ellen completed a quiz with the students that highlighted myth conceptions and interesting facts.
Ellen spoke about what to do in real life situations and how to seek advice. She signposted our students with a list of services within the borough in particular, the Oldham area.
Lastly, well done to all our amazing students who participated in the workshops this week.
Also, a big thank you to Ellen, for delivering this informative workshop to all our students.
