Head of College Update
I wish to start this week’s blog by sharing with you that I really do welcome the opportunity to say well done and thank you to my New Bridge College students and colleagues for everything that you do. This week has certainly been jam-packed with numerous activities, events and challenges. Yet, irrespective of the mass, everyone has continued to work extremely hard. We are more resilient from this week and we are stronger due to sheer commitment, dedication and focus. Together, New Bridge College students and staff stride further and faster, and continue to look out for and support each other and I feel particularly grateful and fortunate to work and be alongside you all. Thank you.
Well done to ‘Team NBC Digi’ who, this week, competed in the Foundation Worldskills Media qualifying heat. The competition task focused upon branding and marketing, and Team NBC Digi was assigned with researching chocolate branding and packaging and then developing packaging for a new 200g chocolate bar. They produced the artwork for the packaging/label and considered the size/fonts used for the name of the chocolate bar… which was ‘Choctastic’! Once produced, they prepared and presented a minute-long pitch to a set of judges introducing them to the new labelling they had created. In addition, they explained why they had selected their design and they talked the judges through their thinking and creative process. Further information to follow after half-term.
A joyous moment this week was for the students who went to Chicago (several weeks ago) as they were reminded of the friends and wonderful memories that were made.
This week, we started engaging in our celebrations for the upcoming Platinum Jubilee. I heard two students discussing the remarkable achievement of a special woman who has held a position for 70 years… nothing short of a marvel. A New Bridge College celebration would not be a festivity without Mrs Nelson’s consumables that would make Mr Kipling exceedingly jealous!
On Thursday 26th May, the Lumenus students and staff, in partnership with Oldham Theatre Workshop, hosted a ‘Human Library Employment Event’ at Oldham Gallery. We are awaiting the professional photographs to come across to us and we will do a full report after the half-term. However, here are the visual minutes of the event to give you a flavour…
As we now enter the final half-term holiday of the academic year, I am wishing all students and staff a wonderful and extremely well-earned break. Some College staff have assured me that we will see the Summer sun shining bright. However, I will only believe that when I see it. Yet, regardless of the weather, I will be smiling away whilst rocking at an Alice Cooper concert and most definitely if a certain English football team do well in Paris this weekend! On that musical note, as Alice Cooper once sang…’School’s Out’. Maybe not for Summer (yet). However, for a week. Therefore, please do have a great one.
See you back on the 6th June… ready to ‘go again’!
