Firstly, a huge thank you to Shirley Wood-Gallagher for introducing us to a number of the SEND team from Manchester City Council this week. We are extremely looking forward to collaborating and working with our new colleagues.

Girls Group Update

This week in Girls Group, it has been a pleasure to accept the request from the Everyone Learning team and Mr Wood in providing handmade table decorations for the Governor’s Conference this week. A little food for thought went into this process and a few late nights thinking. Mrs Nelson wanted to make something quite unique, easily accessible for the girls to complete but pretty at the same time.

We made colorful positive inspirational quotes with hearts in jars and what a brilliant job Bethany did!

The girls even managed to have a little bit of fun along the way with the paint!

The girls stepped up to the challenge and at first it was quite difficult but we are very proud of what was achieved. Well done girls and Mrs Nelson!!

Lumenus Update:

Well, it has been another jam-packed exciting week for Lumenus. Making our final arrangements for our Employability and Human Library event next week, going to the theatre, preparing for our Arts Award moderation and presenting at the Governor’s Conference …phew!

On Wednesday, Craig came to deliver our final workshop for our Human Library Stories and to allocate jobs for the evening. Everyone was very excited, the roles include; human books, greeters, hosts, librarians and stall holders. The students told their stories and were given notes on ways to improve their delivery and tweaks to content. The books and librarians worked on the human library and greeters, hosts and stall holders worked on the event and their presentation skills.

On Thursday, we went to Oldham Theatre Workshop and had a dress rehearsal of the Human Library, all the books got to tell their stories to everyone. All students were able to try our storytelling activity that is going to take place on the Lumenus stall. I can guarantee this is going to be an amazing event.

On Thursday evening we had two events taking place, including a theatre trip and the Governors’ Conference. At the Governors’ Conference at New Bridge School, three Lumenus students presented the whole event. Ciara, Josh and Shaun were so confident and fun their comic timing was perfect. All who attended commented on their excellent delivery. Many of the Lumenus students went to see ‘Beryl’ at the Coliseum accompanied by Miss Begum, Mr Holland, Miss Moss and Mr McCormack. This is an inspiring story about the largely unknown cycling sportswoman, Beryl Burton. It was a funny and exciting piece of theatre with great acting and storytelling. The students and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They got to meet the cast at the end of the performance.

We are looking forward to our Employability and Human Library event this week, the students have worked incredibly hard. We will all deserve a holiday after this! 😊
