Happy Friday and Red Nose Day!
Head of College Update:
This week at the College, there has been no sign of our students’ positivity and commitment towards their learning and skills development slowing down. Yesterday, I had the privilege and pleasure of visiting our talented Lumenus students and staff at an Oldham Theatre workshop… lots of imaginative Batman 1960s style ‘Pow’, ‘Bap’ and ‘Sock’ actions taking place as they were rehearsing one of the scenes for a ‘Commonwealth Games’ themed performance – well done all and thank you Ben.
Across the globe, our Digi4ll students and staff colleagues arrived safely at Chicago, USA where they are currently enjoying glorious weather and looking forward to visiting the Apple HQ tomorrow. Here’s a brilliant view from their hotel.
Here are some of the students during their Apple led session on coding.
This week, I had the opportunity to share a snapshot of ‘celebrations of learning’ to our Governors and Senior Leaders. I would like to share a few of of these with you too. Currently we have lots of students working towards becoming independent travellers. All of our Activ8 students have completed a course in gaining a qualification in Goalball. With this qualification, students will deliver a six week series of sessions to Year 6 HWA during the Summer term as a part of their Sports Leaders award. Activ8 students have been focusing on stamina work in the swimming pool. Two students were able to complete 42 lengths in an hour and one student an impressive 52 lengths. Lumenus students have been creating a piece on the theme of well-being. They have been exploring five ways of well-being through movement, ideas for self-love and caring for each other. This includes (1) connection, (2) giving, (3) taking notice, (4) keeping active and (5) keep learning.
Throughout this week and today, lots of fundraising activities for ‘Red Nose Day 22’ have taken place, in order to help people live free from poverty, violence and discrimination. I’ve just been with a group of students who were excitingly try to ‘Guess the Teacher’.
Mrs Nelson prepared and brought in a range of tasty cupcakes that went down a treat.
Some Red Nose themed fun.
