Head of College Update

This week, I have reflected upon the importance of learning and education and how it can make a positive impact individually, within our communities and with the people we interact with each day. I really do hope that you get an opportunity to pause and consider the impact you make. Sometimes, it is extremely difficult to self-reflect. However, I want all New Bridge College students and staff to know that your application and what you do is sincerely valued and impactful. I certainly do feel blessed to be in the centre of all of your hard work and commitment. More importantly, I am extremely grateful – thank you.

To the students and staff heading to Chicago, wishing you a safe journey and wonderful time. I look forward to hearing all about your experiences when you return.

The mornings and nights are getting lighter and, this week, the days feel a little warmer… the Spring and Summer sun is certainly on its way. Whatever you have planned for this weekend, please do have a safe, happy and great one!

Lumenus Update:

On Wednesday, we developed our workshop techniques by students delivering warm-ups and drama games to each other. After break, we began work on our ‘human library’ stories which will be incorporated into our docudrama presentation, which will take place next half term. The human library is very much like a library but instead of taking out a book, you will pick a human from a catalogue who will tell their own story to you, face to face. In the afternoon, we went over to Oldham Theatre Workshop, to meet KS4 Lumenus. We continued developing our wellbeing piece. Students create a motif from using letters from a word that is connected to them ‘feeling good’. For example, the words students chose were words such as; family, art and dance. Both KS4 and KS5 are working well together as a group and enjoy coming together.

This week in Lumenus we have received our scripts from Ben for our Secondary School Partnership programme. We will be performing with other secondary schools in Oldham Coliseum on 27th June. We are so very excited to have received our scripts. Today we have been exploring the script and had a read through. In the afternoon we practised a short scene, in pairs, from the script. Students worked very hard on the short scenes and managed to capture the comedic aspects of the play.
