Head of College Update

Firstly, as students and staff go into an extremely well-earned break, I wish to say a huge thank you to all of our young people and their families, staff members and our work placement providers for your continued support throughout this challenging, yet very fruitful, half-term period. During this time, I have continuously looked inward. Subsequently, I am capturing this opportunity to gently nudge you all to think about what we do, who we are and, for me most notably, why we do it. Unquestionably, I sincerely believe that all of our students and staff can be truly proud of their resilience, work ethos, dedication, what they achieve each day and bask in a commendable and admirable glow. Whatever you have planned for over the weekend and next week, I’m wishing it brings you good health and well-being and much joy and happiness. Please do have a safe and great one.

Best wishes, Scott Mckeown

English Update

In addition to last week’s update and wonderful student achievements, all Entry Level students in the upper ability Lumenus and Activ8 group have now successfully passed their reading assessments. Charlie achieved 100% and Dylan accomplished 92%, a huge well done to both. Within one of the Employability groups, the majority of Entry Level students have now passed both reading and writing. Kian achieved 100% in his reading and Dante got 100% in writing. In addition, Morgan has shown excellent progress within writing and his grading score has significantly improved over the past few weeks. Again, well done students. A special thank you to all students for the commitment they are applying to their studies. Also, thank you to the staff who support our amazing young people.

Lumenus Update

On Wednesday, the Lumenus group completed their project with Dark Horse Theatre with a trip to the Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield. Students took part in the final workshop, engaging in the Silent Approach. Lumenus students and staff watched the development showing of ‘#Unit21’ and were able to provide feedback, views and thoughts in order to inform the progression of the full-length touring show. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are keen to go back and see the show in its entirety in April. It was inspirational to see two past Lumenus students,  Alice Rodgers and Rebekah Hill performing on the stage with such conviction and professionalism. An amazing experience for all.
