This week in English, the students have been working on their persuasive writing skills. We explored AFOREST writing techniques which help to make our writing more persuasive. Well done to Liam W in Activ8 for his brilliant work on this.
LUMACFS2 then looked at how they could make their openings more engaging by incorporating AFOREST. This lesson was based around the topic of individuality and we discussed why it was important to celebrate differences. After watching a clip from The Greatest Showman, the students came up with adjectives to describe the performers which were absolutely fantastic. I would like to give a special mention to Bethany H in Lumenus here for her contributions.
DIGIFS1 developed their persuasive writing skills further by looking at the use of sarcasm and irony. We analysed an article from the Guardian which critiqued the John Lewis “Man on the Moon” Christmas advert and then began to produce similar responses of our own about the John Lewis “Buster the Boxer” Christmas advert. Needless to say, the students excelled with their use of sarcasm and I can’t wait to read their completed responses.
Between now and the end of term, I will be speaking to each student and filling out their Functional Skills tracking sheets with them, so that we can assess how they are working towards the exam criteria.
I am so impressed with all of the hard work I have seen over the last term and feel like I have settled into NBC extremely well; there is really no where else I would rather be.
Have a great Christmas and New Year everyone!
