Another productive and busy week at Medtia for all our Pathway students.

The week started off with the Lumenus team travelling off to The Palace Theatre to watch ‘We Will Rock You!’ – they went backstage before the show and met some of the cast who kindly took time out of their busy schedule to answer their questions and even let the students take part in their warm up! What a fantastic experience they all had which of course will help them in the MAT production in April.

This week, myself and Mr Quinn went over to visit the Bridging the Gap group at the Royal Oldham Hospital. We were met by Amanda, one of the job coaches, who took us around all four of the different placements to meet with the students and the staff that they work with. Our first stop on the tour was the laundry – which is massive! They don’t only clean for the hospital but all the different hospitals in the Pennine Trust. As well as the hospital resources, they also clean police blankets and vests. Dylan was hard at work in the laundry, telling us what he needed to do for one of his daily tasks.

We then went off to see Patrick who is based at the Shop @ The Royal – he was replenishing stock as we arrived and was able to explain to Mr Quinn and I all the different roles he had completed whilst on his placements. He was proud to tell us that he had shown the manager some fantastic skills and they are now going to train Patrick on how to use the till and serve customers.

Moving on, we went to visit Nathan who is based at the café. He was also replenishing stock but explained that earlier that morning he had helped to serve breakfast to customer. Nathan did like to tell us that one of the perks of working at the café was that he was given a free breakfast and lunch!

Finally we met with Cherrie who was on her porters rounds – she has definitely impressed the staff and has been asked if she can be placed on the Bank list of staff which Cherrie is hoping to take on in the summer term.

It was a fantastic morning seeing the students working hard and aiming towards that end goal of employment.

Now for a closer look at what Lumenus have been up to..

What a week it’s been! Lumenus have had a super jam packed week. As you all already may know, our school production this year is ‘We Will Rock You’.

As a treat on Tuesday, Lumenus went to watch We Will Rock You at the Palace Theatre in Manchester. Lumenus Key Stage 5 were very, very lucky and got to have a question and answer session with the cast! They also got to have a sneak peak at the physical and vocal warm up by the cast!

Later on Lumenus Key Stage 4 joined us to watch the live performance at the Palace Theatre. The show was brilliant and energetic, all the staff and students enjoyed the show – we all want to go again! It was a fantastic night and a good eye opener for our own school production in April.

On Wednesday Key Stage 5 went down to the school site and joined Key Stage 4 Lumenus and Hollinwood Academy pupils for rehearsals in the theatre. We had a very productive day, we went through lots of scenes and songs.

On Thursday Key Stage 5 came to Oldham Theatre Workshop and practised their piece for the Royal Exchange project. We planned our ending for the piece. It’s all starting to come together so keep an eye out for it.

It has been a busy week for us and I hope you all have a good rested weekend – we certainly need one!

Congratulations to Dominic on achieving this week’s ‘Worker of the Week’ award in recognition of his hard work at the Guinness Partnership cafe – well done!

I hope you have a lovely weekend,

Jaina
