As those of you who follow the blog will know, we launched our One to One iPad Project during the last school year. We began the first stage of the project in the summer term with the initial roll out to teachers. Throughout the term our team have been working towards completion of the Apple Teacher Programme and exploring opportunities to begin integrating this technology into teaching and learning.

Our next stage is to roll out the iPads to all of our pupils. This has required significantly more thought. Given the wide range of needs of our pupils, there are much greater logistical considerations required to ensure the devices can be deployed effectively. I’m pleased, however, to announce that we intend to roll out the iPads to all pupils by the end of the month. You will shortly receive an information booklet giving you some additional information about the project. In the meantime I can share with you our broad aims:

  • Technology will enhance the learning experience and support each child to reach their aspirational destination.
  • Teachers will use technology to streamline the process of assessment for learning to support pupil progress.
  • Technology will support collaboration and communication within our learning community.
  • We will sustain the impact of technology through a continuous cycle of innovation.

I’ll be posting further details here as we go live with the roll out.

Starting next week, we will be shining the spotlight on a different class in each blog and asking the pupils to choose the news they would like to share with you. Our first feature will be from Mr Flanagan’s Year 7 class and the pupils are already busy preparing!

This has been our first full week and everyone is now settling into their new classes and routines. Mrs Fennelly’s Communication Group have welcomed 4 new pupils and they have been making friends and working well together..

Miss Patchett’s Life Skills group have been very busy this week organising the revamped staff room. The pupils have carefully unpacked boxes of cutlery, plates and bowls and put them away in the cupboards ready for staff to use..

They have also been working hard learning how to hang up their coats and fasten zips and buttons..

Mr Goup’s Maths groups have been enjoying using the base 10 concrete resources in their lessons..

A letter has been sent home (click here to view it) with details of Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission’s upcoming return visit following the Oldham Local Area SEND inspection. As part of the re-visit, they would very much like to have your views which you can give through the online survey available here until 12 noon on Friday 20th September or at an open meeting on Monday 23rd September. You can find more details on the POINT (Oldham’s Parent Carer Forum) website here.

Have a good week,

Gavin
