Two big events in the school calendar took place this week, both of them highlights of the year for all involved. The first was our Sports Day on Thursday led by Mr Smith and the rest of the PE team. On show again were the skills and qualities such as communication and teamwork, confidence and resilience, concentration, perseverance and self-discipline as our pupils competed in both individual and team events throughout the day, culminating in an awards ceremony in the theatre. A special addition this year was the staff vs. pupils cricket match. To say we were outnumbered was an understatement; I’d say at least a third of our pupils were on the field looking to catch us out! It was all in good spirit however and the atmosphere was electrifying, largely due to our number one MC, Mr Thompson, who whipped the crowd up into a frenzy, cheering everyone along.
The second big event was Friday’s Prom for Year 11 and Year 14 leavers, and there was no shortage of wow factor when it came to sharp suits and elegant ball gowns. To see our young people all dressed up and so excited put a huge smile on my face, they all looked amazing. Equally impressive was the range of vehicles our pupils and students turned up in. We had everything from Range Rovers to stretch limos and an off-road buggy! It was something of a ceremony watching each one make a grand entrance in front of the crowd and red carpet before each leaver stepped out to reveal their dazzling suit or gown. The fun and excitement continued into the night with a busy dance floor and opportunities for photos to remember this special occasion.
We will be bringing you an album of fabulous pictures next time, together with reports on both our Bronze and Silver DofE qualifying expeditions and a special feature on our Interactive Bases.
So with the summer holiday fast approaching, we’ve still got a lot to fit in next week with Super Learning Day, transition morning, Year 11 and 14 Leavers’ Presentations, and even a bit of karaoke?! See you again next week,
Gavin
