The young people in our Autism Base classes have been very busy this term. We thought you might like to see a bit of what they have been getting up to..

In AB1 we have been practising our circus skills in Drama..

We have been learning about ‘The Twits’ in English and making Mr Twit’s beard and the Roly Poly bird..

We’ve enjoyed whipping up some cheesecakes in cooking..

In Maths we’ve been working on our understanding of size, learning shapes and matching them..

Our new topics this term have been Noah and the Space Ark in English..

..and mini beasts in Science..

We’ve had fun making our own mini beasts!

We have made sure we enjoyed the gorgeous weather with some water play..

We brought you an update on AB2’s work in a blog earlier this month (please click here if you missed us!) but we thought you might enjoy a few more pictures..

In AB3 we have also been following the topic of Noah and the Space Ark..

As always, we have thoroughly enjoyed our swimming sessions..

..Outdoor Ed visiting the local park..

..and doing Maths in the soft play area (a very popular session!)..

We’ve even found time for some cooking..

..and made the most of the sunshine..

In AB4 we have been exploring the topic of Noah and the Space Ark. The students have had a great time reading the book and taking part in and completing topic related activities. The use of space and rockets has been something the students have found engaging in both English and Maths.

The group have explored different areas in and around Oldham and have had great fun on the climbing apparatus and other playground equipment.

The continued availability to access the soft play area in Hollinwood School has been great fun and rewarding, and enables the students to work on their gross motor skills in a safe environment..

In our Learning for Life lessons we have been using Talking Mats to enable the students to identify things that make them feel happy or sad, helping to create links between our emotions and our environment and experiences. In our communication lessons, the students have been working towards a Signalong certificate, learning and demonstrating a variety of signs and the group have been brilliant – not only have they gained the ability to mirror a sign but to recap it without any visual aids, and some students have even been able to correctly sign.

The group have had a brilliant term and it’s a shame it’s nearly coming to an end!

We hope you’ve enjoyed this glimpse into our Autism Base classes. Have a wonderful Summer everyone and we’ll see you again in the Autumn!
