On Wednesday evening, the Learning Centre welcomed Year 11 students, parents and carers to our transition evening. We have been getting to know the Year 11 students during their transition with us over the last few weeks and it was lovely to meet their parents and carers who we will be working closely with over the next few years and share our joint vision for our students’ future opportunities.

We appreciate that not all our families could attend because of other commitments so if you would like to speak to someone or arrange a visit, please contact Luke Hagan, the Year 12 Pastoral lead, who will be happy to help.

As you know, last Wednesday 12th June the New Bridge girls football team went to Manchester City to play in the ‘City in the Community’ tournament with other schools from Greater Manchester. Here’s a report from Miss Wright..

It’s always great to see how many of our girls want to represent New Bridge at football and, as usual, we had enough for two teams. The teams had mixed fortunes but all the girls showed determination, fair play and great team work. It is a pleasure to watch our young people support and encourage each other. On a sad note this was the last football event for some of our students as they are moving on to new pathways next year. Sabiha, Sarah, Maryam and Cherrie, it has been a pleasure to take you to these football events. You have been good role models to the younger girls and have done New Bridge proud.

As I promised in last week’s blog, here is a report from one of our longest standing players, Sabiha..

We all met up at school and got into our kits and it’s felt different going back to school because I’ve been at the Learning Centre 3 years. Sarah, Sophie, Maryam, Cherrie and myself all went from Learning Centre. We were in two teams, New Bridge A and B, and we played lots of games. I was in New Bridge B team and I was the goalie.

We won 3 games and drew 2 games and lost one game. The whole team did brilliant and we smashed it. We all received blue tops  which were nice and I felt sad as it was the last time for me, Sarah, Maryam and Cherrie we all play together.

As a team it’s been great playing girls football for the last 5 years. I would definitely say to Learning Centre and school students to join the team and you’ll have lots of fun. And last thing, every time I was playing football I was the goalie for New Bridge B. I played goalie every time I went to girls football which was 5 years.

If you’ve visited the Learning Centre this week you can’t help but notice how well our beds, planters and communal outside spaces are looking. It’s all thanks to Mr Blackman and the many students who access Hortus and have worked very hard weeding, planting, mending and preparing our benches.

It’s a lovely place to sit out on a sunny day during lunchtime activities..

It continues to be a busy time for our Year 14 students as they continue the transition process on to future destinations. Yesterday a group of students went to Bridging the Gap at the Royal Oldham Hospital and they were buzzing when they came back. Jade B. wanted to share her thoughts to help students who may be anxious or afraid..

This is my day at Medtia

Hello to all of the young people at the New Bridge Learning Centre that are moving on from college this year and are moving on this time, that it may be hard for the first couple of months but it will be worth it in the long run. Yes it will be a really big change for us but the good thing about moving on from here and going to Oldham College or Bridging the Gap at Oldham hospital or possibly Medtia, you will meet new nice people and make some brand new friends.

But look at it like this is the beginning of a new chapter in all of us young people’s lives. And it will be a really good experience for us all we will pick up new skills out of it. But it will be worth it because of the work experience that you can get out of it and the courses that you are going on and the jobs that you will get out. 

And it brings new challenges that it will set you. And things will change but they will change for the better and we enjoy it when we move on.
