This week I joined the leadership teams from New Bridge School and Medtia, our governors and the executive team for our termly full governing body meeting. The meeting provides the opportunity to reflect on our strengths and achievements and celebrate our students’ successes. It’s also a time when we discuss plans and ideas to further improve our offer. We are continually developing our structures and curriculum to ensure that our vision, mission and values remain central even within the constraints of managing budgets, an ever-growing tension that Graham has spoken about within his blogs.
Our vision:
- ‘Creating Meaningful Futures’
Our mission statement:
- ‘Learning Together, Learning For All, Learning For Life’
Our key values:
- We are caring
- We are creative
- We are inspiring
- We are passionate
- We are innovative
- We trust each other
These values were very evident in this week’s Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s expedition, a 4 day test of resilience, teamwork and determination in North Wales. We will have a full report for you from Mr Taylor next week but I am very proud to say that our students successfully completed the challenge despite the dreadful weather..
Well done every one of you, what a fantastic achievement!! We are very grateful to the staff who supported and encouraged the students, the expedition wouldn’t have been possible without them. We hope everyone has finally dried out now!
This week also saw the culmination of months of hard work and dedication from the Learning Centre students who have been working towards their Sports Leaders qualification. Mr Smith brought two assessors to watch both Kyle and Nathan W. plan and teach an activity to the rest of the group. This will continue for a few sessions and I look forward to sharing their achievements when they pass. Sabiha will be starting her Sports Leaders assessment next week. Good luck guys, very proud of you!
It seems appropriate that, as the England women’s football team are taking part in the FIFA Women’s World Cup , Sabiha, Maryam, Cherrie, Sophie and Sarah joined the girls from New Bridge School to take part in the girls’ One City tournament at Manchester City’s training ground.
Cherrie and Sabiha will be bringing us all the news in next week’s blog and I look forward to sharing their report and photos from the day.
As you may be aware, the Learning Centre staff have been busy learning all about the creative use of iPads and how they can be used within lessons and activities. Staff have created a range of iMovie presentations covering different aspects of Learning Centre life. The projects will be shown via TrilbyTV on the screens around the Learning Centre.
A reminder to our Year 11 parents and carers that you are all invited to the Learning Centre Transitions Evening this Wednesday from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. Tours will be taking place first, then there will be a presentation from around 5.15pm. We are looking forward to seeing you all!
Have a great weekend,
Dawn
