This week started with staff training around the new One to One iPad project which will see all New Bridge students having their own iPad. We are currently in the process of developing staff knowledge and awareness of the different Apple systems and apps and how we can embed iPads within learning, ensuring they are accessible to all. We are already in the process of forming a student working party to help with ‘Trilby TV’ and deciding the content of information shown on our screens at reception and within the Learning Centre. I’m sure that some of our students are very knowledgeable around iPads and will be the ones helping staff!

As you may have read in Graham’s blog, we have been exploring what the New Bridge vision is all about; our values, our mission and our key ‘pillars of practice’. As you know, one of our key aims at the Learning Centre is to develop life skills and enable our students to be as independent as possible. This week a group of our students started the travel training programme with Pure Innovations which will be running weekly until the end of term.

Callum, Ellearna, Nathan R., Matthew, Josh, Yusra, Sophie L., Bobby-Joe, Covy and Sophie O. all engaged well and enjoyed the session. I look forward to sharing more of their successes in in the future

Elsewhere our Hortus students Ryan, Jake and Josh have been helping Mr Blackman bring a touch of colour and Spring to the Learning Centre. They have painted all the frames and boxes within our entrance which will soon be planted up with different seeds..

It was also nice to see Jake, our most experienced Hortus member, independently taking the lead in directing the other students. Well done guys, it looks fab!

Now to more culinary delights. Thanks to Ryan for my lovely chicken stir fry which went down very well..

Mrs Gillett explains what’s been going on in Food Industry this week..

There is no recipe this week as we have used up ingredients that were left over from previous weeks. As Kade put it, this week the meals were ‘random’. Each group made a different dish including tomato pasta with chicken, fish fingers and wedges and breadcrumbed fish with butternut mash and green beans. Each group worked very well and enjoyed the week..

Mr Barker and myself would like to thank Adil from IB for our lovey fruit meringues which were delicious!

Our job coach Bethany also has an update on our work experience students..

It’s been a good week back for all the students at the RSPCA on work experience and they have all got back into the swing of things. Both Nathan and Sophie who attend on Thursday, and Nathan and Kerrie who attend on Friday have done a fab job in remembering their routines whilst they are there and what their roles and responsibilities are at the centre. They all know the importance of good nurture time for the cats and why we make sure that each cat gets at least 20 minutes of attention whilst we are there. As you can see from the pictures below, they have all been doing an amazing job..

Letters have now gone home to families with details of our Easter Holiday Club (also available here). Please remember to return your forms by Friday 8th March if you would like to book a place for your child. If last week’s Holiday Club was anything to go by, they will have a wonderful time..

I have to close this week with some fabulous pictures of Michael. Firstly, Mr Smith was really impressed with his control on the trampoline, stating “It’s the best he’s ever done!”

..and I couldn’t resist sharing Michael’s creative impression of a Dalek which needs no words!
