As we start a new term, Mr Bright has the latest news from our Digit4ll Enterprise students at Medtia..

Christmas, it’s the most wonderful time of the year…and for our New Bridge Enterprise, it most certainly was!! I am so proud of what our students are achieving. I didn’t think we could top the successes of the last academic year but something special is happening again. What am I talking about? The new enterprise project thought up by our IT Pathway students..

‘Sea Clear’ is the product and #wavethebag is what you all need to be tweeting. That’s right; our students have decided to create an eco-friendly product to raise awareness of the huge amount of plastic in our oceans by producing their very own bags for life..

The product has been a huge success with the students printing and selling over 250 bags in December alone. However, it’s not making profit that is on our students’ minds this time, their goal is to raise awareness of this important cause. This year they have really gone to town on social media to help spread their message; they can be found on

The students worked extremely hard in the build up to launching their new brand, from coming up with the initial concept to designing a logo, choosing the colour scheme, creating promotional flyers, business cards, banners, etc. not to mention developing their own website and social media pages..

They did a lot of research to find the most affordable type of cotton bag and even haggled with the distributor. The students also decided to donate 10% of all profits raised to the charity Plastic Oceans UK.

Once they were ready to launch, they set up stalls at local sites and events and started to spread the word..

The ‘Sea Clear’ bags have been all over Europe from Lanzarote to Budapest and back to Oldham..

They’ve also gathered interest from all kinds of people including our local legend Paul Scholes..

All this has been happening whilst they continued to produce and sell their other products such as printed mugs, canvases and t-shirts. They’ve also gone from strength-to-strength filming and editing a range of promotional videos and Christmas shows across the entire borough, with a turnover of around £2,000 in just a couple of months..

When the Karten Network first funded our printing enterprise project, then later funded our video production enterprise, we had high hopes we could create something special. What I didn’t expect was how independent our students would become and how they would take charge of their own product. It’s been an incredible experience and I feel it’s only going to keep building.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Karten Network for their continued support and also our two dedicated staff members, Mr Handrick and Mr Slater for all their hard work.

Take a look at some of the photos of the students’ journey so far and please continue to spread the word and follow them via multiple platforms (click the icons to visit their pages)…
