It’s been a good couple of weeks in school with all the classes really busy and starting their new topic. Two of our Key Stage 2 classes are learning about the Ancient Greeks and we’ve all been learning about why 11th November is such a special day. The children have been very respectful about the Festival of Remembrance and have been interested in learning about why it is that we wear poppies. You can see some of the lovely artwork that Class 6 have been doing here..
Class 6 have also been studying a Greek Legend called ‘Pandora’s Box”’ They filled the box with sentences about what came out of Pandora’s wedding present box and made a butterfly with hope written on it..
In PE, our coach from City in the Community, Kosta, gave the children some choice about what equipment they wanted to train on. They chose to get every single climbing frame and box out I think, judging by the photos! They also play ‘the floor is lava’ because in Geography we have been learning about volcanoes. You can see class 3 and class 6 hard at work in the gym!
On Tuesday, we took a group of 10 children to take part in the Cross Country Races at Chadderton Park. Some of our pupils had not taken part before and this race was a baptism of fire!! The mud was ankle deep, it was lashing down with rain, the wind was biting cold but our boys gave it their all. I am always impressed by their sportsmanship and yet again, this did not go unnoticed by other schools. We had Kieran sacrificing his own race to stop and help Christopher who went over on his ankle and two other boys were commended for assisting a pupil from another school who had an asthma attack and needed his inhaler. We were also the only school who, as a team, applauded every one of their team mates over the finish line – well done, Spring Brook boys, I’m very proud of you all!
On Friday, Class 4 had a trip out to Heaton Park. Being safe and working well as a team are important targets for this group and Mrs Makin was pleased to tell me that they had a fantastic trip. They climbed, spun, ran, laughed and splashed their way all around the park..
They fed the ducks and had to fend off the peacock who was trying his best to have some of their lunch..
They arrived back in school covered from head to toe in mud, which in my book is the sign of a day well spent!
