These few weeks have flown by. I have had the pleasure of observing a lesson in our Key Stage 3 Nurture Group. The boys were learning about ratio using smarties – I am amazed that the boys did not eat them! It is such a lovely learning environment in Mrs Walters’ room. The boys were focused on their learning and I was very proud to observe the lesson with Miss Hall from our Autism Base, it was great to celebrate the achievements of our young people.

On Wednesday I spent a lot of time with our trustees discussing issues around safeguarding our pupils. This week I have been checking and writing comments on our reports ready for them to be sent home next week. I have also had the pleasure of speaking about our school and our wonderful staff team here at Spring Brook Academy at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester. Well done Mr Howard for your joke, “nice to see so many blue seats full”!!!

Over to our Nurture Group..

The boys have had another great week, working hard and enjoying some of the off-site activities. Mark, Wayne and Lewis represented Spring Brook playing football at FC United with Mr Hopkins.
James enjoyed the morning 1:1 food shopping for the Nurture Group food technology lesson with Mrs Walters. In the lesson we made gingerbread men which the boys ate, gave out to staff and still had one to take home..

The group has been seen by other staff this week in observation lessons and the feedback has been really positive. Well done all of you. All the boys have completed a great deal of work which is reflected in their books..

The group enjoyed a game of Monopoly to strengthen team building and confidence, although a great deal of cheating was going on….Mark? James? Wayne and James have started a challenge of connect four at break times with Mrs Walters playing the winner.

Over the last two weeks the boys have been busy completing their work on the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme..

The boys have played in a range football tournaments at FC United, Ardwick and against other schools and did very well indeed..

Looking very proud, well done boys..

Mr Allman has had some assistance with our Pastoral Support this week..

We had a cake sale to raise money for school funds. The boys made lovely cakes and Mrs Daniels yet again went above and beyond to support this event. It was also nice to see some parents at the coffee afternoon..

Mr Kemp and Mr Pryce made sure they didn’t miss out on the cakes..

..and Mr Daly got in on the action too..

Look at our team effort, a great photo of Mrs Daniels and Miss Roberts who supported the event. Thank you ladies..

SBA2 Nurture Group have been learning about forces in Science.

In Science today we started our forces. All the group challenged each other to an arm wrestle using both left and right arms. This lesson was a huge hit and lots of fun was had by all the boys. Of course, Miss Brown joined in and beat them all, ha ha!! The results reflected in the score boards, left arms for all the boys had less force directionally than the right hand..

We have a quick questionnaire for parents and we’d be very grateful if you could click on the link here to let us know how we’re doing.

Next week we are looking forward to saying good luck to our Key Stage 4 learners with a celebration assembly of their achievements followed by a nice meal. The celebration assembly for Key Stage 3 will be at 1.30pm at the Upper School and I will look forward to seeing you all then. I am also looking forward to going to the good work assembly at Lower School next Friday.

Have a great weekend everyone,
