Another busy week at Spring Brook Primary which has involved the children working hard to complete some end of year assessments with their teachers. We try to keep this low key as the children want to do well and can feel disappointed if they don’t know the answer to a particular question. The assessments are for our benefit and will help us when we are looking at class groupings for next year. All of these are finished now and all our pupils have worked very hard – well done to you all!

Class 6 have been working on their topic of Under the Sea and have loved finding out about all the different creatures that can be found there..

They have done some lovely art work with Miss Cubach as you can see here..

I’ve also been teaching some of the Year 6s how to arm knit. I’d never heard of this until recently but it really is great – you use your arms instead of needles and choose a very chunky knit wool. With one ball, you can make a cowl scarf in about 15 minutes! It’s great for young ones who perhaps don’t have as much patience as they get results quickly. Here are some photos of Rhianna and Kyle who both wanted to make something for their Mums..

We also tried the technique on our fingers which was a bit more fiddly but the results were good. Kyle made this one into a wristband..

Referrals continue to come in to us from the local authority and I have been out to visit two more prospective pupils this week. Visiting mainstream schools really highlights the difference the right provision can make for children with particular difficulties and how beneficial our smaller setting is to our pupils. Relationships are key in our school and our staff work incredibly hard to build and maintain trusting relationships with both our pupils and their families. We really appreciate the support we receive from our families which enable us to work together to ensure the best results for the children.

We had another visit from two Year 7 pupils this week who asked to spend some time at the primary – they just can’t keep away! Thank you to Callum and Leon for helping out with our Key Stage 1 pupils and supporting them with their learning.

Finally, we have been making the final arrangements for our Year 6 residential trip to Wales next month. I love this trip and have never missed a year but I won’t be going myself this time as my own son has his GCSE examinations that week too. I know they will have such a good time though, it always is a really fantastic trip. Fingers crossed for sunshine 🙂

I hope you all have a lovely weekend – don’t forget to send in the holiday club request forms for the Summer holidays. I know it seems like we ask for these very early but it really is a huge job for Mrs Bingley’s team to arrange the activities and staffing in order for this to work as well as it does!
