Where did the last week go? It is now Monday 3rd April and I’m sat in a very quiet school writing this blog. I have to say that I have enjoyed the sunshine this weekend. Our last week of term at Spring Brook Academy saw us celebrating Easter and our focus in RE has been on raising money for the school that we are hoping to be linking with in Nekemte, Ethiopia..

Miss Rodgers, Mrs Ebenezer and the Nurture Group with Mrs Walters all baked yummy cakes. Mrs Tootill and Mr Allman cheated and bought yummy cakes….but we all enjoyed a fantastic coffee morning on Friday and raised some money for the school (we don’t yet have a final figure because some members of staff are still to donate). I would like to say a personal thank you to the staff, pupils and the Wharmby-Brown family who supported this event..

Mr Hopkins has had another busy week. Let’s have a look at what he has been up to….

The Year 9s have been out exploring the local area again this week with a particularly challenging expedition up to Indian’s Head near Dovestones reservoir. After a walk up the river to the boulders fallen from the top of the cliff – and across the river too..

..the boys scrambled up the steep slope to the top of the valley sides. After having lunch in the heather we walked across the top before scrambling back down into Chew Valley which was like being in a different world – completely empty and silent!

Well done on a challenging scramble, boys – Mr Hopkins

Mr Hopkins and Mr Allman have been to collect a donation from ‘Gift Your Gear’. They were only expecting to receive a few items but returned with an amazing haul of large boxes containing outdoor equipment for our pupils here in school, from boots to branded jackets!  Sarah at ‘Gift Your Gear’ has been great in supporting us and she has been extremely helpful in identifying what kit and equipment they have. When we arrived today, we realised just how much is currently available from big brand companies and we are thrilled with the equipment we have received which has set us up for the next few years!

So a huge ‘thank you!’ to Sarah Howcroft and her assistant Lewis at ‘Gift Your Gear’ for sorting and donating all of this equipment to us here at Spring Brook Academy and a big well done to Mr Allman’s fiancé for finding this amazing charity. We are looking forward to keeping Sarah updated on how we will be putting all this equipment to good use!

Now, let’s have a look at our Key Stage 3 Nurture Group..

We’ve had a very busy week in the Nurture Group with trips to Heaton Park and Tesco for the food technology shopping. The boys had a great time in the park but didn’t like getting splashed by the geese..

Mark and Wayne loved the big slide and thought it was really funny when Mr Pryce got stuck and all we could hear was his voice echoing around the playground..

In food technology the boys made Easter nests and all of them donated some nests to Friday’s coffee morning..

The boys have composed caring letters to send to the school in Ethiopia. Miss Rodgers is very pleased with them as the boys have taken great care with their writing.

Finally, I would like to say a special thank you to all the staff at Spring Brook Academy this half term for their hard work in supporting our pupils’ needs. A special Head Teacher’s Award goes to the Key Stage 3 Nurture Group for amazing learning and working hard to achieve our school’s behaviour expectations. Both Mrs Walters and Mr Pryce have worked together as a team to support the learners in the Nurture Group. Well done, everyone! Good luck to Mr Pryce for your next fight – your Spring Brook family are wishing you well and we hope that you win!

Have a Happy Easter everyone. We return to school on Tuesday 18th April in full school uniform,

Miss Rodgers
