Mr Greenway brings us news from our sports pathway..

Activ8 have had another action packed week; on top of our academic sessions at Medtia and school we now have our OCL gym passes and they’re being utilised to the full by both groups, with the Key Stage 5 boys using them in their own leisure times as well as their independent lunchtimes and our Activ8 gym sessions on Thursdays. We have also started our Fitbit programme with all of the Key Stage 5 group now wearing a Fitbit to monitor their daily steps, calorie intake and expenditure (no more McDonalds dinners now lads, eh…!), heart rate and distance travelled each day. This has led to some very healthy competition between the group with each of them keen to be top of the leader board when we analyse our results every Monday afternoon.

As you can see from the picture (and in the video below), we have also had a visit this week from our Sky Sports Mentor, Sophie Cox. Sophie has represented Team GB at two Olympic games, in London and Athens. She won silver medals in the 2004 and 2005 European Judo championships in Romania and the Netherlands. Activ8 take part in the Sky Sports ‘Living for Sport’ project every year and use it in their sports leaders sessions to engage younger pupils using sports. This has been used this year by the Key Stage 4 group while leading the Year 8 intervention sessions on a Friday.
