You may remember that back in the Autumn term we were lucky enough to receive 2 visits from Rik Waddon, a Paralympic Silver Medallist in cycling and our Sky Sports Athlete Mentor.
Well, today we had the privilege and pleasure of welcoming Paralympic swimmer Liz Johnson as part of the Sky Sports Living for Sport project.
Liz has been swimming since she was 3 and she has won a host of medals in World Championships and the last 3 Paralympic Games, including Gold in Beijing in 2008, Silver in Athens in 2004 (proudly modelled here by Thomas)
and Bronze at London 2012, as well as setting a new Paralympic record!!
You can read all about her incredible achievements both in and out of the pool here but you can take it from us that she is even more special in person – we have just spent an absolutely brilliant day with her..
Liz started her morning working with our Activ8 sports pathway group, joining in their gym session at Mahdlo..
Liz told her amazing story to our Key Stage 3 intervention group who had lots of questions for her..
She was then roped into taking part in our Year 10’s PE lesson this afternoon..
..and she also managed to find time to speak to some of our gifted and talented swimmers (who even got to hold her Paralympic medals!!)..
Our young people have loved having their own Paralympic Champion at New Bridge for the day – they couldn’t have asked for a more inspiring (or nicer!!) role model!
Please come back and see us again soon, Liz 🙂
