Last week was extremely captivating. On Wednesday Activ8 met British sports star Andrew Flintoff at the Manchester Velodrome while he was training for his “Clash of the Titans” challenge for Sport Relief this coming Friday. Furthermore, this was a completely unexpected meeting, as we were at the Velodrome for the latest ‘City in the Community’ event where we further enhanced our reputations as strong and successful leaders.

Our weekly activities with Manchester City began on Tuesday when the Activ8 football team put in an invincible performance, remaining unbeaten throughout the day’s matches! It was also my first time playing outside my traditional position of goalkeeper; I opted to “sit tight” as a defensive midfielder. We had a strong team spirit throughout the day which is important in any team and the results speak for themselves..

Thursday saw the annual BBC News School Report Day where schools across the country create their own news bulletins. I feel that this day is important because too often young people would rather read and hear about the “latest celebrity romance” than the issues facing the world today, although that could also be down to an overload of negativity in the 6pm news. Our news bulletin consisted of topics that we all talk about everyday including the Premier League title race and the ever controversial subject of teenage pregnancy as you can see..

Friday was one of the most enjoyable days of the week (although I suppose possibly not for the Manchester United fans in our school). Special Olympic swimming star Hannah Payton gave an inspirational presentation to the school during Friday’s whole school assembly. The entire school was captured by her achievements and how she overcame adversity, and I am sure that she inspired many of us to succeed..

A short time later, Activ8 began their Rugby League training for 2016. I must admit, it felt more like pre-season than the beginning of March, however I am really looking forward to progressing our skills within the game. Talking of the other code, I really enjoyed watching England’s win over Wales on Saturday (sorry, Ms John!) although I have to say that England’s defence in the last ten minutes didn’t give me any educational tools to learn from!

Our local sports teams had a calamitous weekend and I feel for Mr Quinn, having to put up with Bury’s defensive shambles against Rochdale. I perhaps shouldn’t say anything though, because if City play anything like they did on Saturday, I may have to take a leaf out of the United fans’ book and take a sleeping bag with me…

However, I want to finish this week’s blog on a very positive note by thanking you, the reader. This week saw the announcement that I have over 1,000 hits on my blog! This is a fantastic personal achievement and I would to thank everyone for reading it, possibly even liking and sharing my blog on Facebook. It really means a lot.

Have a good week,

Matthew
