It’s been a busy week as usual at New Bridge with much learning happening, although we never seem to get two days the same!
Wednesday saw us welcoming friends and family to our ever popular coffee mornings. At the school site we were joined by over 90 families, particularly those of our Year 9 and Year 11s – our ‘Options’ theme with information about choices for the new academic year in September may have had something to do with that! Our Head Boy, Matthew, wrote some very positive comments about the event in his blog on Tuesday, you can read it here if you’ve not had chance yet.
The Learning Centre’s coffee morning was also a huge success, it was great to see so many parents and carers join us for the excellent refreshments provided by our Wednesday morning food enterprise group..

Special mentions go out to Kyra, Leah, Keiffer and Seb for their hard work, our visitors were very impressed! We would like to thank everyone who attended and supported our young people and we’re looking forward to inviting you all again next term.
Mother’s Day gifts have been on sale this week courtesy of our Enterprise Group. They have been working hard preparing a range of beautiful items ranging from wine charms, identifiers, elegant chocolate-filled glasses and charm gift sets. A special thank you to Callum and Mohammed for working on the stall and making an impressive £57..
Don’t forget that you can place an order throughout the year. The Enterprise Group is now pleased to offer new items for all your special occasions such as weddings or birthdays, while our personalised mugs, t-shirts and canvas prints are still available. Please email nbprinters@newbridgegroup.org to discuss your requirements or call them at the Learning Centre on 0161 883 2402.
Teachers will soon be looking at setting targets for the summer term – how quickly the spring term has gone, there are only three weeks now until the Easter break but at least the days are definitely getting longer at last. A big well done to our Art and Design GCSE group who had a fantastic start to their controlled test preparation – keep it up, guys!
It may be nearly Spring but as we discovered today, Winter hasn’t quite finished with us yet! Despite the snow we managed to keep all our sites open for the children and young people who were able to reach us safely. At the school site our ICT Pathway, Digit4ll, braved the cold and ventured outside with some of their new equipment…the photographs they took were such high quality that we will need to shrink them down before we can upload them to this site but you can see them in all their high definition glory on Facebook here. We do have a very special treat that we can show you here, though – you may remember Digit4ll’s very talented videographer, Luke, who filmed Hollinwood Academy’s nativity play and helped produce the dvds for parents. Luke has been working very hard today and we’re thrilled to be able to show you the stunning film he has made of our New Bridge pupils having a fantastic time in the snow..
Students at Learning Centre didn’t let the weather get the better of them either – many of our intrepid young people managed to make their way in, showing real commitment and mettle! We were very grateful to the students and staff who cleared inches of snow from the drive, paths and car park (twice!) to make it safer for everyone, and a particular mention needs to go to our hardy Hortus students..

We’d like to thank the staff who battled through the snow today to get to work to support our young people – we trust it was a lot easier (and quicker) for you getting home.
Have a lovely weekend,
Judith and Dawn
(Update on ‘Hitch’, our Learning Centre crow; he’s back and has been spotted taking shelter from the snow throughout the day. He seems to be getting a little bolder – we’re hoping he isn’t considering becoming an ‘indoor crow’ as he was lurking rather close to the door..)
